Reliable food when you need it, consistent for the most part which really good since I know what I can expect each visit. Food quality can be improved but not saying it is horrible just that it could be better. Place has potential to be best burger spot in town.

"All great change in America begins at the dinner table." Ronald Reagan Great change here as well, since my last update, from the environs - a more spacious dining room minus the booths, to what's being served - a well culled menu with seductively named offerings, to how orders are placed - servers equipped with mobile ordering devices. Still the same, their motto - "We're only as good as our last burger." - an extensive selection of craft beers that even piqued my non-brew drinking interest and of course, quality, local ingredients. Prior visits have been solo therefore it was a benefit to dine with friends, upping the tasting quotient. To start, we each ordered beer, garlic Parmesan fries, vegetable chips, and spicy ketchup plus the Thousand Island inspired, house sauce to share. Beverages were up first. Starters lagged but finally arrived; neither wowed me - chips being too oily and fries too salty. Spicy ketchup ROCKS! House sauce, when it eventually found our table, was just OK. I usually don't fill up on items like these preferring to save room for the good stuff; so don't let my take stop you from ordering. With plenty of time to study the menu, we decided on our burgers: one Mushroom Truffle, two All Americans, and one Californication. Half way through another round, what we'd been salivating for was served - perfectly cooked-to-order meat in a downsized, brioche bun. No need to "knife and fork" as in the past but in the spirit of sharing that's exactly what we did. Each burger was distinctly different, unique! It musta been the beer talking. How could I have confused the mouthwatering bacon and cheese in the All American with the Kobe burger enjoyed in a previous visit? The Mushroom Truffle did not disappoint, earthy, juicy. The Californication was balanced with the right ratio of avocado to bleu cheese so as not to upstage the beef. All winners I would order again but not until sampling the rest of the menu. Service was nice, nervous, at times, non-existent. I'm attributing that to all the change or perhaps the Mercury Retrograde (8-3-11 to 8-18-11). Solid four stars!

Upon my return to Burger Kitchen, i found three pleasant surprises waiting for me. 1) smaller buns! yay. 2) tasty carrot soup and the most excellent surprise of all: 3) Australian meat pies! The owner (who happens to be Australian) was proud of the fact that they are the only place in LA to get one of these deliciously flaky crusted meat pies. I tried the chicken and mushroom, and i can't wait to go back to try the other two varieties. Service remained very friendly and attentive.
